Device Engineering

Wing has over 15 years of experience in design and fabrication of novel semiconductor electronic and optoelectronic structures and devices at nanoscale, including memory devices, semiconductor lasers, and nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS) for optical storage applications. He is also a visiting researcher/lecturer at University College London, UK.

Ben Jones
IC Design Director

Ben joined Intrinsic from AMD’s Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group (formerly Xilinx), where he led a team of engineers responsible for high-speed signal processing in FPGAs. He has 22 years’ experience in bringing digital circuit designs to market, both as licensed IP blocks and as part of deep-submicron tapeouts. Ben holds a first class Master’s degree in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College, London, and is named as inventor on 11 US patents in the field of digital IC design..

Dr Fernando Aguirre
Senior Device Engineer

Prior to joining Intrinsic, Fernando was a post-doctoral researcher at the Electronics Engineering Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain). He also served as Scientific Consultant for the Physical Science and Engineering Division from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia). Fernando has held teaching positions at the National University of Technology (Argentina) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has published more than 50 articles in top scientific journals such as Nature, Advanced Materials, Advanced Intelligent Systems, and IEEE Access, and won several best paper awards from IEEE conferences. He is member of the IEEE and the editorial board of Microelectronic Engineering (Elsevier), and served in the technical program committees of numerous IEEE conferences.

Dr Matt Schormans
Senior Analog Design Engineer

Matthew is an experienced designer of integrated analog/mixed-signal circuits and systems in both academic and industrial contexts, across a variety of applications. These include RRAM memory cell design, wireless power systems for biomedical implants, support electronics for quantum computing, and analog interface circuits for integrated PUFs.

Matt has experience in all stages of the chip design and development process, from schematic design to lab testing. He has published several journal and conference articles in IEEE transactions and proceedings, and he holds both MEng and PhD degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College London.

Fabrizio Cabaleiro
Senior AI Engineer

Fabrizio is an AI research and software engineer with over 11 years’ experience working on optimisation of AI workloads. He has experience at all stages of the stack from high level AI frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch down to specific instruction set architectures. He was most recently at Imagination Technologies optimising hardware and software for artificial intelligence applications targeting embedded RISC-V CPUs, PowerVR GPUs, and neural network accelerators. Fabrizio holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Chile.

Independent Directors

Dr Giorgio Anania
Chairman

Dr Giorgio Anania has spent 40 years in senior management or on boards at high-technology companies, from start-up ventures to multinational public companies. He has started or participated in seven start-ups in the US, UK, France and Germany leading to three successful IPOs on NASDAQ and LSE and has raised over $1.7 billion in public and private financing. Giorgio is on the board of Renaissance Fusion, a French fusion start-up, and VP of Photonics21, an EU public-private Partnership which he cofounded. Until Q3-2023 he was chairman and CEO at Aledia, a developer of micro-LED displays where he raised over €300M. Previously Giorgio was CEO of Bookham (now Lumentum), which he grew from a start-up and turned into a listed company with over 2000 staff. Giorgio was also chairman of Sicoya (Berlin), sold in 2021, and Cube Optics, sold in 2015.
